Ball State University Receives National Dance Marathon Participant Stewardship Award

Ball State University Dance Marathon was recently awarded the Participant Stewardship Award at the Miracle Network Dance Marathon Leadership Conference in July. The Participant Stewardship Award will be presented to the organization that has demonstrated outstanding participant recognition and retention efforts, or who has made the largest strides in this area over the past year.

BSUDM receives the Participant Stewardship Award at DMLC 2018 from Riley Hospital for Children patient, Tyler.

This year BSUDM decided to steward their members with experiences rather than products. Their theme for the year was More Than a Marathon. Taking this idea, BSUDM wanted to show their appreciation to their members by showing them that BSUDM was there for them year round.

Stewarding their members with experiences rather than products included a leadership committee member appreciation night. At the event, they had a guest speaker from Ball State University’s career center come educated committee members on how they could translate their dance marathon experience into the professional world. Following the speaker, a BSUDM Alumni Panel was available to help answer any questions committee members had. The event also included the presenting of committee member of the year awards.

To better steward BSUDM’s dancers at the marathon, they held a Meal of Miracles meal for dances which had fundraised $1,500 or above. Those in attendance were able to hear a special exclusive Riley miracle kid and family’s story.

BSUDM even implemented their first ever High School Marathon Appreciation Day as well as a special fundraising reveal at their marathon event to show their over $200,000 contribution to BSUDM and the kids.

Miracle Network Dance Marathon is an international movement, involving over 400 colleges, universities and K-12 schools across North America that fundraise for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since its inception in 1991, Miracle Network Dance Marathon has raised more than $250 million–ensuring that no child or family fights pediatric illness or injury alone.
